This is the latest toy from Japan. It doesn’t sound as good as the real thing but full marks for the neat idea. I’ll be looking out for the second generation….

At the moment I am totally obsessed with the idea of building my own Mac. Someone on Basshead Tech has been posting about how he has been able to make his own Apple computer with a powerful Q6600 Intel processor.
If your completely new to computer building then you may have to invest a fair amount of time to get your system up and running. As far as I’m concerned, the build is not something to be scared of - it’s part of the fun.
I have found a ton of these “Hackintosh” stories on the Insanely Mac forum, for example the guy who built a basic system for just $200! That is just insane.

Here is a Canadian company which makes a Zero Emission No Noise car, the ZENN car.
One of these electric cars is being driven around my town in Ohio and I am intrigued by it. If you visit their site, www.zenncars.com, read the four chapters of the company’s history. From the brand credo: “ZENN will quietly change the way you think about getting from A to B. ZENN is enlightened mobility”. This video from the Rick Mercer Report gives you a look inside the manufacturing facility and a ride in the electric car. What a great idea whose time has certainly arrived!

When I was at the college I used to leave everything for the last moment (and I still do). So 2 or 3 days before exams I’d stop partying and get serious. With 300 never read pages of wisdom in front of me I’d be day-dreaming of ways how to improve memory in a miraculous way. One of my favorite fantasies was “sleep-learning”. Wouldn’t that be wonderful? Just tuck the book under the pillow, have a good sleep and wake up with all that knowledge infallibly printed in your brain …
As I am getting older, and find it more difficult to remember what I’ve heard or read, or recall faces I’ve met, I stopped day-dreaming about miracles and started to look for more practical ways of how to improve memory and keep my brain fit. Many memory exercises are not my cup of tea but how about this one I found in Science Daily:
Ten Minutes Of Talking Improves Memory And Test Performance
ScienceDaily (Nov. 1, 2007) — Spending just 10 minutes talking to another person can help improve your memory and your performance on tests, according to a University of Michigan study
The study also suggests that social isolation has adverse effect on intellectual as well as emotional wellbeing. Time to start visiting some old friends! Or how about going to local yoga, pottery, French or other classes to meet some new faces.
And finally, here I found a remarkable video where Derren Brown demonstrates his photographic memory.
Amazing, how does he do that?

Here in the UK, finding the cheapest train ticket is a black art. You can end up getting ripped off if you don’t know the tricks of getting discount tickets.
I just bought some tickets from London to Somerset - a round trip of around 300 miles. If I bought these just before travelling it would have cost me £55, but booking in advance online cost me just £25.
The savings can be even greater, with single fares starting at just £1. It sounds too good to be true, but using www.megabus.com saves me a fortune. There are a limited number of these tickets though, so you have to be reasonably quick off the mark. Another good one to check out is National Express coaches. Their “FunFares” run between the major cities from just £1.

The Guardian newspaper has just released a news story about how shipping emissions are nearly 3 times greater than previously thought.
Personally, I find it very hard to understand how these sorts of mistakes can happen. How hard can it be to work this sort of thing out? Perhaps it’s just an indicator of how governments are not really taking global warming as seriously as they should.
I will certainly be thinking twice the next time I log on to eBay. There are so many cheap items from Hong Kong, but in reality it is costing us the planet.
